For well over a century tourists have come to holiday in the East Neuk of Fife. In this book visitors to Anstruther and Cellardyke between the 1950s and 1990s share their memories of happy summer days.

They travelled by train, boat and car – some undertaking long journeys from the south of England, others making an annual trip by train from the west of Scotland, when Anstruther still had a station.

Like today they swam and paddled in the waters of the Firth of Forth, ate fish and chips at the harbour-side, played golf at the Billowness. Gone though are the cinemas and tourist attractions like the North Carr lightship and the whalebone arch which feature in so many memories.

Locals, too, have their recollections of the influx. Rooms in family homes were let out, fishing trips were arranged, and local bands provided the entertainment.

The affection and warmth expressed for those summer days (no matter the weather!) shines through their accounts.
