‘Swim out to the raft. Music on the loudspeaker… Help by The Beatles. So we all sang that at the top of our voices shouting Help as we all jumped off the raft. Always remember that.’

‘The shute was where you learned to swim. You could go down the shute and just get back to the side before you sank. The day we learned to swim was when Bobby Lumsden’s dad took us on his back to the raft and left us. He said I am not taking you back you’ll have to swim. We made. Happy days.’
